Balpakram National Park protects a dramatic high plateau in Meghalaya's South Garo Hills, where cliffs, deep gorges, grasslands, and forested valleys create one of northeast India's most atmospheric landscapes. The park is deeply significant in Garo tradition and is often described as the land of spirits. Wildlife sightings can be elusive, but the scenery, birdlife, wildflowers, and cultural landscape make it a memorable offbeat park.

Subtropical broadleaf forest, grassland, bamboo, orchids, and cliff-edge vegetation across the Garo Hills plateau.
The park shelters elephants, elusive cats, primates, hornbills, reptiles, and a rich invertebrate community, though dense vegetation makes sightings unpredictable.
Balpakram was declared a national park in 1987 to protect the plateau and forest ecosystems of the South Garo Hills. Its conservation story is closely linked to the cultural landscape and traditional beliefs of the Garo people.
