Safari access is by jeep on forest tracks. Some tourist facilities and viewpoints are reachable by road, but fort ruins and uneven tracks have limited accessibility.
Betla National Park forms the visitor core of Palamau Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand. The landscape combines sal forest, bamboo, grassland openings, streams, and the atmospheric ruins of Palamau Fort. Wildlife sightings are more understated than in central India's famous tiger parks, but elephants, deer, langurs, birds, and forest scenery make Betla an important and accessible protected area in eastern India.

Sal-dominated dry deciduous forest with bamboo, mixed woodland, grassland openings, and streamside vegetation.
Betla supports elephants, deer, langurs, wild boar, sloth bear, leopard, and occasional tiger movement within the wider Palamau landscape.
Betla is part of the Palamau Tiger Reserve, one of the reserves included in the early years of Project Tiger. The region also has deep historical layers, including the old Palamau Forts associated with the Chero rulers.
