Access depends on boats, riverbanks, and uneven island terrain. Visitors with mobility constraints should arrange private boats and avoid routes requiring long walks on sandbars.
Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in eastern Assam is a dynamic riverine wilderness of channels, sandbars, grasslands, swamp forest, and semi-evergreen woodland. The park is famous for feral horses, river dolphins in nearby channels, and birdlife ranging from waterbirds to forest species. Because the landscape is shaped by floods and shifting rivers, visits usually combine boat rides, island walks, and birding rather than conventional jeep safaris.

The park supports river dolphins in adjacent channels, feral horses, buffalo, primates, reptiles, and a rich bird community including rare wetland and grassland species.
Dibru-Saikhowa was notified as a national park in 1999 and forms part of a larger biosphere reserve landscape. Its conservation value lies in preserving a rare Brahmaputra floodplain system that is constantly reshaped by river dynamics.
